Project Overview

British Builders attended a residential property on Blackburn Drive, Sheffield, to carry out remedial electrical works following a failed Electrical Installation Condition Report. The inspection had identified several issues requiring attention, including problems with the lighting circuit, an overloaded ring circuit, incomplete ring continuity, socket switch replacements, and a bathroom light that was not suitable for use in a wet area.

The photos show replacement socket fronts installed within the property, the existing consumer unit requiring investigation, and the bathroom light area where the fitting needed to be addressed. To provide a more complete and practical repair, our team carried out a wider electrical remedial package rather than treating each issue as an isolated item. The work focused on improving circuit safety, restoring correct operation, and helping bring the installation closer to required electrical standards.

The job included fault finding, socket switch replacement, bathroom light replacement, circuit checks, and final testing to confirm that the completed works were safe and functional.

Scope of Work

• Reviewed the failed EICR findings and identified the required remedial actions.

• Checked the bathroom lighting area and surrounding ceiling condition before completion.
• Completed electrical testing after the remedial repairs.
• Confirmed correct operation of the replaced socket switches and lighting components.
• Completed final safety checks and left the work areas clean and tidy.

Challenges & Solutions

• The EICR had identified more than one electrical issue — the works were completed as a coordinated remedial package to address the main safety and functionality concerns.
• The lighting circuit was causing tripping when moved to the OCD side — fault finding was carried out to identify and resolve the issue before final testing.
• The ring circuit was reported as overloaded and not forming a complete ring — the circuit was checked and assessed so the required correction could be completed safely.
• Several socket switches required replacement — new socket fronts were installed neatly, with checks carried out to the wiring and back boxes during the process.
• The bathroom light was not suitable for the environment — the existing fitting was replaced with a more appropriate bathroom light to improve safety in a moisture-prone area.

Final Outcome

The EICR remedial works were completed to improve the safety, reliability and compliance of the electrical installation. The affected socket switches were replaced, the bathroom light was upgraded to a more suitable fitting, and the lighting and ring circuit issues were investigated and addressed as part of the repair visit.

The property was left with improved electrical functionality and safer fittings throughout the affected areas. Final checks were completed to confirm correct operation, and the work areas were left clean and tidy after completion.

The completed repairs helped resolve the key issues raised during the EICR and provided the property with a safer and more dependable electrical setup for everyday use.
