Lead Flashing Repair — Huddersfield

Project Overview

British Builders carried out roof repair works at a residential property on Lea Street in Lindley, Huddersfield. The project focused on addressing defective lead flashing where cracking, weathering and stress fractures had created a risk of water ingress around the roof and wall junction.

The existing flashing had been installed as one continuous section, which had cracked over time due to natural expansion and contraction. The works included removing the damaged lead, preparing the roof area and installing new flashing in shorter sections to allow better movement and long-term weather protection.

Scope of Work

• Supply and installation of new lead flashing in suitable sections
• Overlapping, sealing and securing each flashing section correctly

Challenges & Solutions

• Cracked single-piece flashing — The existing continuous flashing had split due to movement. It was replaced with sectional lead flashing to reduce future stress cracking.
• Water ingress risk — The affected roof junction was prepared and sealed carefully to improve weather resistance and prevent further moisture penetration.
• Working around existing roof finishes — The repair was completed without unnecessary disturbance to the surrounding roof tiles and wall finishes.

Final Outcome

The defective lead flashing was successfully removed and replaced with new correctly sectioned flashing. The repaired area was overlapped, sealed and securely fixed to provide improved protection against rainwater penetration.

The roof junction was left neat, stable and weatherproof, with all materials checked on completion. The area was cleaned down and left tidy, with the client advised to monitor the repair during heavy rain as part of normal aftercare.
