EICR Socket Switch Replacement — Prince of Wales Road, Sheffield

Project Overview

British Builders attended a residential property on Prince of Wales Road, Sheffield, following a failed Electrical Installation Condition Report. The report identified that several socket switches required replacement before the electrical installation could be brought back to a safe and compliant standard.

The work involved inspecting and replacing 9 socket switches across the property. Our engineer checked the visible condition of the existing accessories, removed the faulty or unsuitable socket fronts, inspected the wiring and back boxes where accessible, and installed new replacement socket switches. Each point was then checked and tested to confirm safe operation before the work area was cleaned and left tidy.

Scope of Work
  • Reviewed the failed EICR findings and identified the affected socket locations.
  • Inspected 9 socket switches across the property before replacement works began.
  • Safely isolated the relevant electrical circuits prior to carrying out the work.
  • Removed the existing socket switch fronts from the affected areas.
  • Checked the condition of wiring, terminals and back boxes where accessible.
  • Corrected and secured connections as required during the replacement process.
  • Supplied and installed new socket switch replacements to the identified points.
  • Ensured each socket plate was seated correctly and securely fixed to the wall.
  • Checked socket alignment and surrounding finish after installation.
  • Tested the replaced sockets to confirm safe and functional operation.
  • Completed final safety checks in line with the EICR remedial requirements.
  • Removed waste materials and left the working areas clean and tidy.

Challenges & Solutions
  • The property had multiple socket points requiring attention following the EICR — all 9 identified socket switches were replaced as part of the same visit.
  • Some sockets were located in different rooms and at low level — the engineer worked carefully around carpets, skirting boards and decorated wall surfaces to keep disruption to a minimum.
  • The existing accessories required inspection before replacement — wiring and back boxes were checked where accessible before new socket fronts were fitted.
  • The works needed to support electrical compliance — all replaced sockets were tested after installation to confirm they were safe for continued use.

Final Outcome

The 9 socket switches identified following the failed EICR were successfully replaced. Each existing socket switch was removed, checked and replaced with a new functional unit, improving the safety and reliability of the electrical installation.

The engineer carried out final testing to confirm the replaced sockets were operating correctly and suitable for use. The completed works helped address the EICR remedial requirements and left the property in a safer, more compliant condition.

All working areas were cleaned after completion, with the property left tidy and ready for continued use.
