Kitchen Floor Repair — Pickering Crescent, Sheffield
Project Overview
British Builders attended a residential property on Pickering Crescent, Swallownest, Sheffield, to carry out kitchen floor repair works following damage to the existing floor structure. The affected section required more than a simple surface repair, as the damaged floorboard had weakened around the kitchen access area and needed to be opened up, inspected, reinforced and properly reinstated.
The works included lifting the affected flooring, exposing the damaged section, strengthening the underlying support structure, installing a new floorboard section, adding damp protection, fitting underlay and reinstating the laminate flooring for a clean and stable finish. The repair was carried out carefully around the kitchen units, door threshold and existing floor levels to ensure the area was left safe, secure and suitable for everyday use.
Scope of Work
- Inspected the kitchen floor area to assess the extent of damage and movement.
- Carefully lifted and removed affected sections of laminate flooring around the damaged floor area.
- Opened up the damaged floor section to expose the subfloor and supporting structure beneath.
- Removed loose, weakened and deteriorated flooring materials from the affected area.
- Checked the surrounding floor edges, kitchen unit line and door threshold for stability.
- Strengthened the underlying timber carcass to create a secure fixing base.
- Installed additional support where required to reinforce the repaired section.
- Supplied and fitted a new 2.4m x 600mm floorboard section to cover and stabilise the damaged area.
- Secured the new floorboard using screws to reduce movement and improve long-term durability.
- Installed a damp proof membrane beneath the repaired floor area to help prevent moisture rising from below.
- Supplied and fitted suitable underlay to create a smoother and more stable surface for the laminate.
- Reattached and reinstated the laminate flooring using adhesive where required for a neat finish.
- Checked floor levels and transitions to ensure the repaired area sat securely with the surrounding flooring.
- Cleaned the kitchen work area and removed waste materials after completion.
Challenges & Solutions
- The damaged section was located in a busy kitchen access area — the floor was opened carefully and repaired in stages to maintain a stable finish around the surrounding units and doorway.
- The floor required structural reinforcement rather than only cosmetic repair — the underlying carcass was strengthened before the replacement board was installed.
- Moisture protection was required beneath the repaired section — a damp proof membrane was installed to help protect the new floorboard and reduce the risk of future deterioration.
- The laminate flooring needed to be reinstated neatly — underlay and adhesive were used to support a smoother, more professional finish.
- The repair had to blend into the existing kitchen floor — the new board and laminate were checked for stability, level and alignment before completion.
Final Outcome
The damaged kitchen floor section was successfully repaired and reinforced. The weakened area was opened up, cleaned back, supported and fitted with a new floorboard section to restore strength and stability to the floor.
A damp proof membrane and underlay were installed as part of the repair, helping to improve protection beneath the flooring and provide a better base for the reinstated laminate. The laminate flooring was then reattached to create a tidy and practical finish across the kitchen area.
The completed floor is now more secure, better supported and suitable for everyday use. All work was checked on completion, and the kitchen was left clean and tidy.
