Bathroom Extractor Fan Replacement & Mould Treatment — Park Grange Croft, Sheffield
Project Overview
British Builders attended a residential property on Park Grange Croft, Norfolk Park, Sheffield, to address ongoing bathroom ventilation and mould issues. The existing extractor fan was no longer providing effective airflow, which had allowed moisture to build up around the bathroom and contributed to visible mould staining on the ceiling and upper wall areas.
The works involved a wider bathroom ventilation improvement package, including removal of the faulty fan, installation of a new extractor unit, checking the existing electrical connection, reviewing the duct route, and treating affected mould areas. The aim was to improve air movement, reduce condensation build-up, and leave the bathroom cleaner, safer and more suitable for everyday use.
Scope of Work
- Inspected the bathroom to assess the condition of the existing extractor fan and affected mould areas.
- Checked the ceiling, upper wall sections and ventilation point for signs of moisture staining and poor airflow.
- Removed the faulty bathroom extractor fan from its existing position.
- Reviewed the existing wiring and connection point before installing the replacement unit.
- Checked the vent duct route to ensure the new fan could extract moisture effectively.
- Supplied and installed a new efficient bathroom extractor fan.
- Connected the new fan to the existing electrical supply and secured all visible fittings.
- Checked the fan casing, grille and surrounding area for a neat and stable finish.
- Treated the affected mould areas using a suitable mould cleaning solution.
- Scrubbed and cleaned visible mould staining from the affected bathroom surfaces.
- Dried and wiped down treated areas to help reduce the chance of regrowth.
- Tested the new extractor fan to confirm improved operation and airflow.
- Completed a final inspection of the bathroom ventilation and treated areas.
- Cleaned the work area and removed waste materials on completion.
Challenges & Solutions
- The existing extractor fan was not removing moisture effectively — it was removed and replaced with a new working unit to improve ventilation.
- Moisture had affected more than one area of the bathroom — the ceiling and upper wall sections were inspected and treated as part of the works.
- The bathroom required both mechanical ventilation and surface treatment — the fan replacement and mould treatment were completed together to provide a more complete solution.
- The duct and electrical connection needed to be checked during replacement — the new fan was connected, secured and tested before handover.
- The room needed to be left suitable for tenant use — all treated areas were cleaned down and the bathroom was left tidy after completion.
Final Outcome
The bathroom is now fitted with a new extractor fan, helping to improve ventilation and reduce moisture build-up during everyday use. The replacement fan was securely installed, connected and tested to confirm correct operation.
The visible mould-affected areas were treated and cleaned, helping to improve the condition of the bathroom surfaces and reduce the risk of further mould growth. With the ventilation restored and the affected areas cleaned down, the bathroom was left in a better, more practical condition for the tenant.
All work was completed with final checks to confirm the fan was operating correctly, and the property was left clean and tidy on completion.
